If an appliance breaks and it wasn't your fault, the Consumer Rights Act 2015 gives you real protection.
The timeline
- First 30 days: you can reject a faulty appliance for a full refund, no evidence needed.
- Month 2 to 6: the retailer must repair or replace it free of charge. It's on them to prove it wasn't faulty when sold.
- 6 months to 6 years: you can still claim, but you need to show the fault was there from manufacture.
What retailers owe you
Free diagnosis, parts, labour and collection. If a repair takes more than 7 working days, they should offer a loan appliance.
Excuses to watch for
"Warranty's expired", "speak to the manufacturer", "that's normal wear". None of these override your rights under the Act.
How to claim
Contact the retailer in writing, quote the Consumer Rights Act 2015, state your preferred remedy, and give them 14 days. An independent engineer's report strengthens your case considerably, and that is something we can provide. Call 01305 551551.
