Freezer working, fridge not cooling
Usually ice built up in the freezer blocking airflow to the fridge. This is one of the most common calls we get, and once the underlying cause is found it is a straightforward repair.
Neither fridge nor freezer cooling
Either the compressor is running without cooling, which points to a refrigerant problem, or ice has built up on the evaporator coils. On older units the repair cost can outweigh the value of the appliance, and we will say so.
Water pooling inside
Almost always a blocked defrost drain at the back of the fridge section.
Ice building up in the freezer
A faulty defrost heater, thermostat or timer, or a door that has been left ajar.
Unusual noises
Cracking or hammer drill sounds are usually ice around the fan or evaporator. A constant rattle that continues after a defrost points to the fan motor.
Running too warm
Ice obstruction or a faulty thermostat.
Won't power on
Check the plug and socket first. After that it is usually a control component.
Door seal has failed
A damaged or perished gasket lets warm air in and makes the compressor work far harder than it should.
